Established in 1955 as the Dad's Association, the UI Parents Association was created in 1971 to bring about a closer relationship among parents, students and the University. The Association's on-campus office is your connection to University departments and offices that can answer specific questions and respond to concerns. The Parents Association is staffed by the Office of the Vice President for Student Life and works closely with many offices all over campus.
Parents Advisory Board
The Parents Advisory Board is a volunteer group of parents representing 20,000 families of UI undergraduate students. The board meets four times per year on campus with UI administration, faculty and staff, assists at Family Weekend Breakfast, and recommends programs and activities for funding through the Parent Fund for Student Support.
Alcohol on Campus
Talking to your UI student about binge drinking and alcohol consumption can be a difficult task. For tips on how to approach the conversation or more information and resources for talking to your student about drinking in college, the Division has produced a handbook for parents to reference.
- Information about how to get a copy of the handbook (only print version... no electronic)
- Given the evidence that binge drinking is an issue at the University, the Division of Student Life has spear-headed collaborative efforts on alcohol harm reduction. This plan involves education, bystander interference, communication, and policy review.
