It's almost here!! Family Weekend, happening November 9-11, is one of the best times of the year. I hope to meet many of you next weekend. This is a great time to get to know your student’s "home away from home" and I hope you will take the opportunity to explore this great campus. We are hoping for beautiful weather and a big football win over the Northwestern Wildcats.
Whew, midterms are almost over!
Your students are in the midst of midterm exams. I've had the distinct pleasure of interacting with students who are almost done and those who are just beginning the race to fall break. Please encourage your student to leverage the resources available on campus to help them manage stress or anxiety. There is academic support through Supplemental Instruction (SI), the Academic Support and Retention office, or visiting with their faculty members for tips and tricks to better prepare for mid-term exams.
And, sleep, sleep, sleep! Remind your student that a good night's rest is key!
Thanksgiving recess/fall break is November 17-25, with classes resuming on Monday, November 26. For students who will be staying on campus, housing is available. You can read more about the residence halls that will be open and find contact information here. Please note that the deadline to register is 4pm on Wednesday, November 14.
For those students who are traveling home, we wish you all a very happy celebration of gratitude. It can be a difficult time to navigate, with your student home, especially for our first-year students. This article has some great advice on how to handle holiday breaks. If you are at all anxious about having your Hawkeye back in the nest for a few days, I hope you find it helpful.
Thank you for all you do to support your student and the University of Iowa.
