It has been a busy few weeks since my last newsletter. Thankfully, Mother Nature seems to be in better spirits, and campus is buzzing with students (and staff!) who are ready to welcome warmer days. That also means that the academic year is winding down, which is always bittersweet. I cannot believe I have been in Iowa City for almost a year. It has gone by in a flash, and I have learned more than I thought possible. It is truly an honor to be on this campus, working with a team that takes such pride in giving Hawkeye students the best experience possible.
Thank you for being with me on this journey.
Speak Out Iowa
Last year, the university conducted a campus climate survey relating to sexual misconduct. Recently we released the findings, which I think are important to share with our Iowa families. I was pleased with the number of students who participated. We had over twice as many student responses compared to the last time a survey like this was conducted, two years ago.
The UI is committed to making this campus a place where students feel safe and protected. I hope you will take some time to look at the news release about the survey and click through to read the results.
We will take the key findings and use them to continue to make this a stronger, better campus that is giving students the climate and resources they need. Read more on Iowa Now.
American Talent Initiative
I also want to make you aware of Iowa’s recent decision to join over 100 other colleges and universities as a member of the American Talent Initiative, an organization that seeks to expand access to higher education and opportunities for highly talented low- and moderate-income students.
As part of ATI, the UI will help develop strategies to attract, enroll, and support such students from before college to graduation and beyond.
We are proud to be joining these efforts and look forward to partnering with ATI to bring exceptional students to campus.
As a reminder, graduation is right around the corner. If you are looking for information, you can visit the commencement website for all the details.
Thank you for all the support you have shown our amazing UI students this academic year. The students on this campus are immensely talented, but they couldn’t do it without your love and support.
