News from the Nest

It’s hard to believe we’re already in the third week of the spring semester. On the chance your students missed the student involvement fair last week, they can choose from over 500 student organizations to join on our website. While it might seem far off, early spring is a great time to have conversations with your student around summer plans, and potentially a summer job or internship. As always, thank you for your support in reminding students about academic resources on campus, such as Academic Support and Retention and Tutor Iowa.

Coronavirus update

The University of Iowa is monitoring reports and recommendations regarding the 2019 Novel Coronavirus from national and regional health agencies on a daily basis, and is taking safety precautions to detect and treat any potential case of the virus by following the latest guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Iowa Department of Public Health.

While there have been no confirmed cases in our state at this time, and the overall risk to Iowans is low, we encourage anyone who has traveled to any area of China within the last 14 days to be mindful of the symptoms and to call their healthcare provider if they feel they may have contracted the illness. We will continue to follow the most up-to-date protocols set by the CDC, and requiring people without symptoms to get tested or to isolate themselves is not being advised at this time. It’s not too late to get a flu shot!

If your student hasn’t already, remind them to get a flu shot! The Iowa Department of Public Health reports influenza is widespread in Iowa, and the CDC confirms this for most states in the US. There have been predictions that this flu season could be severe. Protect yourself now and get a flu shot as soon as you can. Learn more on the Student Health website
