It’s hard to believe that the last month of classes is already upon us. (Maybe that’s because we had SIX to EIGHT inches of snow recently!) I am always surprised at how quickly the semesters fly by. I sincerely hope that this year has been transformative for you and your student. I enjoy working on these newsletters and hope you find the content useful and informative.
Going forward, I hope to continue to improve communication between the Division of Student Life and families. If you have any recommendations or suggestions regarding News From the Nest, please contact me.
State Budget Cuts
Earlier this semester I shared with you news of possible budget cuts from the state. The legislature has approved a $10.9 million cut for the University of Iowa and Iowa State University. No doubt this will require us to make difficult decisions in the coming months. President Harreld and the senior administrators at UI released a statement that I encourage you to read.
Nite Ride Service
The UI Department of Public Safety rolled out a new ride-request service that students can use to schedule safe transportation home during the evening and early morning hours. It will operate from 10pm to 5am every day.
Nite Ride is the direct results of feedback from students and parents, and I am thrilled that this service, which is free if scheduled ahead of time and $1 per person if the Express Service is requested, is available to all students. Thank you for sharing your voices.
It won’t be long before graduation is upon us. There is information available regarding the various ceremonies. If you plan to attend, I encourage you to make arrangements as soon as possible. You can visit the commencement website for all the details.
As always, if the Division of Student Life can assist you and/or your student in any way, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We are here to serve.
